We are FSA Ingeniería y Arquitectura (previously known as Franz Sauter y Asociados), a private and independent consulting firm that provides professional services in engineering and architecture.
Founded by the recognized engineer Franz Sauter, FSA was born in 1964 as a pioneering company in earthquake-resistant structural engineering. Over time, we have evolved in order to respond to today’s market demands; integrating other specialties and the latest in engineering and architecture technology and innovation.
We are members of the Costa Rican Chamber of Consultants in Engineering and Architecture, and we are duly authorized to operate as a private and independent consultant to provide professional services in engineering and architecture.

Marco Antonio González
Civil Engineer, graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 1987, with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from National University, San José, Costa Rica, earned in 1994.
He has extensive experience in the planning, management, design, and inspection of industrial, commercial, residential, and public projects. He joined FSA as a Project Engineer in 1996 and has served as President of the company since 2004.
He has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 1987. He has also been a member of the Consultants Committee of the Costa Rican Chamber of Construction since January 2016, where he has held important positions including President, Vice President, and Board Director during several terms.
Eduardo Guevara
Civil and Structural Engineer. B.Eng. in Civil Engineering (1992) and M.Eng. in Structural Engineering (1993) from McGill University, Montreal, Canada.
He has been involved in the planning, analysis, and design of major projects in Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala, the Caribbean, and Panama. He joined FSA as a Structural Engineer in 1998 and is currently Partner and Director of FSA Ingeniería y Arquitectura.
He has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 1994 and a member of the Permanent Committee for the Study and Revision of the Costa Rican Seismic Code since 2006. He also serves as Coordinator of the Steel and Wind Committees, member of the Forces and Analysis Committee, and Coordinator of the High-Rise Buildings and Structural Assessment and Retrofit Committees.
Mariela Cordero
Civil Engineer, graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2012. She earned a Master’s Degree in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology from ROSE School, University of Pavia, Italy, in 2015, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance from the Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) in 2021.
After completing her master’s degree, she worked as a Visiting Researcher at Northeastern University, Boston, USA, from August to December 2015.
She has participated in the structural design and inspection of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects, as well as residential, industrial, and commercial developments. She joined FSA in 2019 as a Structural Engineer and is currently one of the company’s Senior Structural Engineers. Since 2025, she has also served as FSA’s internal Program Manager.
She has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 2012 and a member of ACIES (Costa Rican Association of Structural and Earthquake Engineering) since 2013.
Diego Villalobos
Civil Engineer, graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2019, and completed the Master’s Program in Structural Engineering at the University of Costa Rica in 2014.
He has participated in the development of several Seismic Vulnerability Studies, as well as the structural retrofit, design, and inspection of residential, industrial, and commercial projects. He joined FSA in 2008 as a Structural Engineer and is currently one of the company’s Senior Structural Engineers.
He has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 2009 and a member of ACIES (Costa Rican Association of Structural and Earthquake Engineering) since 2011.
He served as a professor at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Costa Rica, from 2016 to 2021.
Since 2015, he has also served as an instructor in professional training programs for the Costa Rican Association of Civil Engineers (CIC).
Ronald Schmidt
Civil Engineer, graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2014. He completed the Academic Master’s Program in Civil Engineering at the University of Costa Rica.
He has participated in the development of several Seismic Vulnerability Studies, as well as the structural retrofit, design, and inspection of residential, industrial, healthcare, and commercial projects. He joined FSA in 2021 as a Structural Engineer and is currently one of the company’s Senior Structural Engineers.
He has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 2014 and a member of ACIES (Costa Rican Association of Structural and Earthquake Engineering) since 2023.
He has been a professor at the School of Architecture of LCI Veritas University since 2025.
Rodolfo Gutiérrez
Architect, graduated from the University of Costa Rica in 2002.
He has been involved in the planning, architectural design, and construction supervision of a wide variety of commercial, residential, and industrial projects. In addition, he has been responsible for project management from the preliminary design stage through construction. He joined FSA in 2008 as an Architect and later expanded his responsibilities to include Project Management.
He has been an active member of the Federated College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) since 2003.
